Bill overview
The Online Accessibility Act amends the Americans with Disabilities Act to require that consumer-facing websites and mobile applications owned or operated by private entities be accessible to people with disabilities. It establishes standards based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level A and Level AA, and outlines a process for the Access Board to develop and update these standards. The bill also creates a system for reporting and addressing violations, including administrative remedies and potential civil penalties, and establishes a private right of action for individuals to pursue legal recourse.
