Bill overview
The PREPARE Act reauthorizes a Small Business Administration (SBA) program that provides low-interest loans to small businesses for disaster mitigation efforts. This program allows businesses to make improvements to protect their properties, equipment, and inventory from damage caused by disasters, up to a maximum loan amount of $500,000 per borrower in a 12-month period. The bill also requires the SBA to actively promote the program and conduct outreach, particularly to businesses in economically depressed areas, and mandates a program evaluation report to assess its effectiveness.
