Bill overview
This bill directs the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to study the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of using temporary, small residential structures – often called ‘granny pods’ – to provide long-term care for individuals with physical or mental impairments. The study will identify which existing Medicare and Medicaid services could be offered in these pods, determine appropriate reimbursement rates, and compare those rates to the cost of traditional nursing facility care. Ultimately, the goal is to assess whether these structures can offer a viable alternative for certain long-term care needs.
