Bill overview
The Communities Overregulating Networks Need Economic Competition Today Act, or CONNECT Act, prohibits states and political subdivisions from providing or selling broadband internet access service. However, this restriction is waived for existing providers if only one commercial provider already exists in an area, and for the Tennessee Valley Authority. The bill aims to foster competition in the broadband market by preventing government-owned networks from dominating and ensuring access for emergency services like 9-1-1.
