Bill overview
The Unconscionable Pricing Act aims to prevent excessive price gouging of essential supplies during declared federal emergencies. It prohibits sellers from charging prices that are more than 10% higher than the average price of those supplies in the 30 days before the emergency was declared, unless the price increase is justified by reasonable costs. The Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general are given the authority to enforce these rules, protecting government agencies and non-profit organizations responding to emergencies.
