Bill overview
The Safe Reopening Tax Credit (HR 7222) provides a tax credit to eligible employers for expenses they incur to reduce the spread of viruses, including COVID-19, in their workplaces. Employers can claim up to 30% of qualified expenses, with limitations based on wages or gross receipts from 2019. The credit is designed to help businesses adapt to safety measures during the pandemic and is available for calendar quarters beginning after the bill’s enactment and before January 1, 2021. Excess credits exceeding the limitations are refundable.
