Bill overview
This bill, the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Act, aims to improve access to experimental treatments for individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other rapidly progressing neurodegenerative diseases. It establishes a grant program within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide investigational drugs through an expanded access program, and creates a Center of Excellence within the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to expedite the development of medical products for these diseases. The bill also provides funding for these initiatives and requires an ongoing review of the program’s effectiveness.
