Bill overview
This bill, the Understanding COVID-19 Subsets and ME/CFS Act, directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to increase research into myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), particularly among individuals with COVID-19 who develop the condition. It also authorizes the Department of Health and Human Services to launch a public awareness campaign about post-viral chronic neuroimmune diseases. The goal is to better understand the causes of ME/CFS, improve diagnosis and treatment, and address the significant health and economic impact of this illness, especially among COVID-19 survivors and veterans.
