Bill overview
The Honor Our Commitment Act of 2020 temporarily protects Vietnamese nationals who arrived in the United States before July 12, 1995, from deportation. It provides a 24-month deferral period for those with existing removal orders, unless their removal is deemed necessary for national security reasons or due to extradition proceedings. The bill also mandates that these individuals receive work authorization and prevents their detention based on immigration status, and requires the Department of Homeland Security to notify affected individuals about the protections offered.
