Bill overview
The FIRST COVID-19 Care Delivery Act of 2020 aims to address healthcare worker shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic. It allows the Department of Homeland Security to grant lawful permanent resident status to certain foreign-trained physicians and nurses who provided medical services during the emergency. The bill also waives certain immigration requirements and limitations to facilitate the rapid admission and employment of these professionals, as well as removes caps on medical intern enrollment in CMS-funded programs.
