Bill overview
The COVID Special Enrollment Act of 2020 temporarily expands health insurance enrollment opportunities during the COVID-19 public health emergency. It creates a special enrollment period for individuals to sign up for health plans through health insurance exchanges, beginning one week after the bill’s enactment and lasting for eight weeks. The bill also directs the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct outreach and education to inform eligible individuals about this expanded enrollment period, and allocates $25 million for these activities.
