Bill overview
The Epidemic Tax Credit Act of 2020 creates a tax credit for employers to help offset the costs of employees who are unable to work due to a declared epidemic area. Qualified employers can receive up to 90% of wages paid to employees who are on leave or not performing substantial work because of the epidemic, with a maximum weekly wage of $2,000 and a maximum leave period of eight weeks. The bill defines ‘epidemic area’ as counties designated by the CDC and outlines the process for designating and maintaining that list.
