Bill overview
The Case Backlog and Transparency Act of 2020 aims to increase transparency and accountability within the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration processes. It requires the department to regularly report on the size of the immigration application backlog, the factors contributing to it, and the steps being taken to address it. The GAO will also conduct periodic assessments of DHS’s efforts to ensure fair and accurate immigration benefit adjudication. The bill also clarifies definitions related to backlog and processing times, and updates reporting requirements within existing legislation.
