Bill overview
This bill, the Protecting the Information of our Vulnerable Children and Youth Act, updates and expands the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) to better protect children and young consumers under 18. It broadens the definition of ‘covered entity’ to include nonprofits and clarifies requirements for obtaining verifiable consent, developing privacy policies, accessing and deleting information, and securing data. Specifically, it prohibits targeted marketing based on this information and mandates the deletion of unnecessary processed information, strengthening protections for young users online.
