Bill overview
The FRESH Trucking Act aims to ease regulations for truck drivers transporting perishable goods like produce, flowers, and sod. It changes how ‘on-duty time’ is calculated, specifically excluding loading and unloading, and removes the requirement for a 30-minute rest break during the first 8 hours of a driving shift. Drivers are also allowed to complete trips even if they exceed maximum hours-of-service limits, as long as they are within 150 miles of their destination. This legislation is intended to reduce burdens on drivers transporting time-sensitive agricultural commodities.
