Bill overview
The Energy Sector Innovation Credit Act of 2019 aims to encourage investment in new energy technologies and boost the production of electricity from those technologies. It introduces a new investment tax credit for ‘emerging energy property,’ such as advanced carbon capture facilities and certain renewable energy projects, and establishes a production tax credit for facilities generating electricity from these technologies. The bill also includes a credit for energy storage technologies like batteries and hydrogen storage, and allows for a transfer of credits by public entities to facilitate project development. It also includes a national limitation on the amount of credit that can be claimed for energy storage property.
