Bill overview
This bill proposes to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, Merchant Marine, and civilian citizens who served honorably and became prisoners of war during World War II while held by Imperial Japan. The bill recognizes the extraordinary courage, tenacity, and sacrifice of these individuals, many of whom endured horrific conditions and prolonged captivity. The gold medal will be presented to the Smithsonian Institution for display and will be made available for exhibition at locations related to the experiences of these prisoners of war.
