Bill overview
The Housing Innovation Act of 2019 establishes the Office of Housing Innovation within the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This office will focus on exploring and developing new approaches to increase and diversify housing supply, address housing shortages and affordability, and reduce traffic congestion. The Act also provides grants to local governments for planning efforts, supports research and pilot projects related to housing and transportation, and funds educational outreach programs. Finally, the Government Accountability Office will review the effectiveness of these grant programs.
