Bill overview
This bill aims to lower the cost of prescription drugs used in federally funded research and development. It requires agencies and nonprofits receiving patents for drugs developed with federal funds to first agree to a ‘reasonable pricing agreement’ with the Department of Health and Human Services. The agreement would be based on comparing prices to other developed nations with similar economies. The bill also includes a process for the Secretary to waive the agreement if they determine it’s in the public interest, with a requirement for public notice and comment.
