Bill overview
The Data Privacy Act establishes rules for businesses that collect and process information about at least 3,000 people. It requires these businesses, known as ‘covered entities,’ to provide clear privacy notices, limit data collection to reasonable purposes, allow consumers to access and control their data, and implement strong information security practices. The Federal Trade Commission will be responsible for enforcing these rules, and the bill also provides for increased enforcement resources and research into privacy-enhancing technologies.
