Bill overview
The Make PPE in America Act aims to strengthen the United States’ supply chain for personal protective equipment (PPE) by requiring the federal government to use long-term contracts – at least three years in duration – when procuring PPE. This is intended to incentivize domestic manufacturing and investment in the production of PPE and its components within the United States. The bill includes exceptions for situations where domestic sourcing isn't possible or necessary for immediate public health emergencies, and mandates a report on the government’s long-term strategy for PPE procurement.
