Bill overview
This bill, the Medicare Access to Radiology Care Act of 2019, allows Medicare to cover services performed by radiologist assistants under the supervision of a radiologist. It defines ‘radiologist assistant services’ and specifies that payment for these services should be made to the supervising radiologist. The bill also adjusts the Medicare fee schedule to include radiologist assistant services and clarifies how payment should be handled in hospital and ambulatory surgical center settings. The changes take effect on January 1, 2020.
