Bill overview
The Refuge System Protection Act allows the Department of Justice to sue individuals or entities that damage resources within U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service managed lands and waters. It also enables the Department of Justice to pursue legal action against objects (like vessels) responsible for such damage. The bill aims to provide compensation for injuries to these resources, including replacement costs, loss of use, and the value of irreplaceable resources. Recovered funds can then be used to restore, replace, or acquire equivalent resources, and to cover response costs.
