Bill overview
This bill, the ESP Family Leave Act, amends the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to extend eligibility for leave to education support professionals. Specifically, it defines ‘education support professional’ as a range of employees in public schools and higher education institutions, including paraeducators, administrative staff, maintenance workers, and other support personnel. To be eligible for FMLA leave, these employees must have worked at least 60% of the total monthly hours expected for their job, as determined by their employer based on the previous school year’s assignments.
