Bill overview
This bill, the Cerebral Cavernous Malformations Clinical Awareness, Research, and Education Act of 2019 (CCM-CARE Act), aims to improve research, treatment, and awareness of cerebral cavernous malformations (CCM). It directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to fund research, establish a clinical research network, and convene a consortium to develop better treatments and diagnostic tools. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will conduct surveillance and collect data on CCM, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will expedite clinical trial processes. The bill also addresses the significant burden of CCM, particularly within certain populations, and prioritizes funding for biotechnology companies developing CCM treatments.
