Bill overview
The Ravi Thackurdeen Safe Students Study Abroad Act amends the Higher Education Act to expand the Clery Act’s reporting requirements to include study abroad programs offered by colleges and universities that receive federal student aid. This means institutions must report on crimes and incidents occurring during study abroad, similar to how they report on campus crime. The bill also requires institutions to develop and implement programs to protect students participating in these programs from crime and harm, including biennial program reviews and pre- and post-trip orientation sessions.
