Bill overview
This bill, the Volunteer First Responder Housing Act, expands eligibility for two federal housing programs to include qualified volunteer first responders. It allows these responders to receive a verified adjustment to their income under the Department of Agriculture’s Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program and to qualify for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program. To be eligible, individuals must be bona fide volunteers for an eligible employer, have served continuously for at least two years, and hold relevant certifications as firefighters or other responders.
