The Learning Excellence and Good Examples from New Developers Act of 2019 (LEGEND Act) requires the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to make certain operational weather models publicly available as open source code. The bill also directs NOAA to review innovations from outside the agency and incorporate them into its models to improve forecasting accuracy. It includes provisions for reporting on implementation and allows for limited exceptions to protect national security.
