Bill overview
The VA Newborn Emergency Treatment Act authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide medically necessary transportation for newborn children of eligible women veterans. This includes transportation to and from health care facilities, even those outside the delivery hospital, and extends the potential duration of transportation services beyond seven days if medically necessary. The bill also allows the VA to waive or reimburse veterans for transportation costs incurred before the bill's enactment to ensure access to needed care for their newborns.
