Bill overview
The Stop Child Summer Hunger Act of 2019 aims to combat child food insecurity during the summer months by establishing a nationwide program providing eligible families with summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. These cards, initially set at $150 per child for 2020 and adjusted annually, can be used to purchase food from approved retail food stores participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The program is designed to reduce hunger and improve the nutritional status of children who are already enrolled in free or reduced-price school meal programs.
