Bill overview
The Fallen Heroes Family Travel Act of 2019 aims to provide travel assistance to the families of service members who die outside of combat zones but are still honored with a return of their remains to the United States. Currently, this travel support is limited to those who die in active combat. This bill expands eligibility to include service members who pass away in locations not considered a theater of combat, ensuring their families can travel to receive their loved one’s remains. The bill also clarifies that travel privileges will be extended through the Invitational Travel Authorization program.
