Bill overview
This bill aims to ensure the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund, which provides benefits to coal miners suffering from black lung disease, has enough money to pay out claims. It does this by extending the current excise tax on coal mined in the United States, which is the primary source of funding for the trust fund. The tax, currently set to expire in 2020, will now remain in place until December 31, 2030. This extension provides a longer-term solution to the fund's solvency challenges.
