Bill overview
This bill, the Savings for Service Members Act, changes the rules for military reservists who can deduct travel expenses on their taxes. Currently, reservists had to be more than 100 miles from their home to qualify for an ‘above-the-line’ tax deduction for travel. This bill lowers that distance to 50 miles, making it easier for these service members to receive this tax benefit. The change will take effect starting in 2019.
