Bill overview
The Protection from Robocalling Act of 2019 aims to reduce unwanted robocalls and spam calls by giving the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) more authority to regulate telecommunications companies. Currently, these companies are largely regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and have an exemption from FTC oversight. This bill removes that exemption, allowing the FTC to actively investigate and prosecute illegal robocalling practices. The goal is to strengthen consumer protection against these disruptive calls.
