Bill overview
The Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act of 2019 aims to protect young children from lead-based paint hazards in federally assisted housing. It requires the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to create regulations that require risk assessments for housing built before 1978, especially when children under six reside or are expected to reside there. The bill also mandates that landlords control identified hazards and notify residents, and establishes a process for families to be relocated to lead-free housing if hazards aren't addressed promptly.
