Bill overview
The Presidential Tax Transparency Act requires current and former Presidents, as well as candidates for President nominated by a major party, to disclose their federal income tax returns for the three most recent taxable years. These disclosures will be made to either the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) or the Federal Election Commission (FEC), with the information publicly available after redaction of sensitive details. The bill also establishes penalties for failing to comply with these disclosure requirements and empowers the IRS to provide tax returns upon request from OGE or the FEC.
