Bill overview
The Saudi Arabia Accountability and Yemen Act of 2019 aims to support a peaceful resolution to the civil war in Yemen and address the resulting humanitarian crisis. It suspends certain weapons transfers to Saudi Arabia, imposes sanctions on individuals involved in the death of Jamal Khashoggi and hindering humanitarian access, and prohibits in-flight refueling for Saudi-led coalition aircraft. The bill also seeks to hold perpetrators of war crimes accountable and restricts the import of unlawfully removed cultural property from Yemen. Furthermore, it directs the State Department to report on the U.S. strategy for ending the war and assesses the activities of Iran and Russia in the region.
