Bill overview
The Prevent Future American Sickness Act of 2020 aims to address widespread PFAS contamination by designating these chemicals as hazardous substances under federal law. The bill establishes grant programs for homeowners with contaminated wells, creates a PFAS grant program for water infrastructure improvements, and sets pretreatment standards for PFAS in public water systems. It also bans the use of PFAS in food contact substances and prohibits the incineration of firefighting foam and other PFAS-containing wastes, while requiring the Department of Defense to report on its PFAS stockpiles.
