Bill overview
The K2 Veterans Toxic Exposure Accountability Act of 2020 directs the Department of Defense to conduct a comprehensive study of toxic exposure experienced by members of the Armed Forces deployed to Karshi Khanabad Air Base in Uzbekistan between 2001 and 2005. The study will assess the conditions of the base, investigate potential health consequences, and identify links between exposure and illness. Furthermore, the bill expands the Department of Veterans Affairs’ open burn pit registry to include burn pits located in Uzbekistan and ensures that veterans deployed to the base are covered by depleted uranium follow-up programs.
