Bill overview
This bill makes a small change to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to ensure that Coast Guard members deployed through the Department of Homeland Security are covered by extended lease protections during stop movement orders related to emergencies. Currently, these protections primarily applied to members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard when serving outside the United States. This amendment clarifies that the Secretary of Homeland Security should also be included when the Coast Guard is operating under the Department of Homeland Security’s direction. The change applies retroactively to orders issued starting March 1, 2020.
