Bill overview
The GI Bill Planning Act of 2019 makes changes to the Montgomery GI Bill program, extending the deadline for veterans to elect benefits and phasing out the program by September 30, 2029. It also removes a requirement that veterans must be less than three years removed from active duty to receive in-state tuition at public colleges and universities. The Department of Veterans Affairs will be required to post information about in-state tuition requirements on its website and disapprove courses lacking clear explanations of those requirements.
