Bill overview
The VA Hiring Enhancement Act aims to make it easier for the Department of Veterans Affairs to hire physicians. Specifically, it eliminates the enforcement of noncompete agreements that physicians have with other healthcare providers. As part of the appointment process, newly hired physicians may be required to serve at a VA facility for a year or until their noncompete agreement expires. The bill also changes the qualifications for VA physician appointments, requiring completion of a residency program instead of an internship, and extending the timeframe for licensure.
