Bill overview
This bill, the Fry Scholarship Improvement Act of 2019, expands the eligibility for the Fry Scholarship to include the children and surviving spouses of military members who died in service on or after September 11, 2001, even if they were not actively serving on active duty. Specifically, it extends the scholarship to children and spouses of deceased Selected Reserve members who died from a service-connected disability within four years of their discharge. The changes will take effect starting August 1, 2020. This aims to provide educational benefits to families of service members who sacrificed their lives or health while serving.
