Bill overview
The Child Nutrition Relief Act of 2020 extends temporary waivers for school meal programs, like the National School Lunch Program, that were put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, the bill allows schools to continue providing meals and meal supplements even if buildings are partially or fully closed due to the virus, and requires meal service models to prioritize social distancing. It also provides guidance to the Secretary of Agriculture on how to implement these modified meal service models. The waivers are set to expire at the end of August 2021.
