Bill overview
This bill, the Coronavirus Unemployment Benefits Tax Relief Act, aims to provide tax relief to individuals who received unemployment compensation during 2020. It proposes to exempt a portion of that unemployment income from being included in a taxpayer’s gross income for federal income tax purposes. Specifically, it excludes up to $10,200 of unemployment compensation from taxable income. This change is effective for tax years beginning after December 31, 2019.
