Bill overview
The Thank You Act proposes a temporary tax credit for law enforcement officers and a deduction for first responders. Law enforcement officers who have served for at least 10 years, or any officer, may be eligible for a refundable tax credit of up to $1,000 or $500, respectively. First responders, defined similarly to emergency response providers, can claim an above-the-line deduction of $1,500. These provisions are effective for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2019.
