Bill overview
The Safeguarding Americans from Coronavirus and Religious Exercise Discrimination Act (SACRED Act) aims to prevent discrimination against religious individuals and institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. This bill prohibits states or local jurisdictions from receiving or using federal funds designated for COVID-19 relief if they discriminate against religious groups. The Department of Justice will determine ineligibility, and funds can be withheld if a jurisdiction is found to be discriminatory or directs funds to discriminatory jurisdictions.
