Bill overview
The Continuous Health Coverage for Workers Act provides financial assistance to help workers continue their health insurance coverage when they lose their jobs, are furloughed, or experience reduced hours. Specifically, it treats premiums as paid for COBRA continuation coverage, church plan coverage, and furlough coverage for eligible individuals. The bill allows these individuals to switch to a different health plan offered by their employer, subject to certain requirements, and requires employers to notify eligible workers about the premium assistance program. The Department of the Treasury will reimburse employers for the premium costs through a payroll tax credit.
