Bill overview
This bill aims to maintain access to certain medications and medical devices for Medicare beneficiaries during the ongoing public health emergency related to COVID-19. It allows the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to extend the timeframe for pass-through payments – which help lower the cost of these items – beyond the initial period. Specifically, it gives the Secretary of Health and Human Services the authority to extend these payments if a public health emergency is declared. This extension would not be counted towards the overall duration of pass-through status once the emergency ends.
