Bill overview
This bill, the Protecting Benefits for Elderly Refugees and Refugees with Disabilities During COVID-19 Act of 2020, extends the time refugees and certain humanitarian immigrants can receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Specifically, it extends eligibility from the original seven-year period to September 30, 2021, for those whose eligibility expired after January 31, 2020. Additionally, the bill waives naturalization fees for SSI recipients who are applying for or have applied to become naturalized U.S. citizens, as long as their naturalization application is pending or being appealed.
